Can you believe we’re halfway through 2024 already? It feels like the year is flying by. And if you’re like most people, the goals you set in January might have taken a backseat by now.
That’s why I created this summer reset. Not as a bootcamp or a big overhaul, but as a gentle nudge to help you get back on track in a way that feels good, realistic, and sustainable.
Whether you’ve been living with MS for years or just received your diagnosis, this is your reminder: small, consistent steps matter more than any perfect plan. And summer is the perfect time to reset your body, your mindset, and your momentum.
A Mid-Year Reflection That Changed Everything
I was sitting on the beach recently, watching my daughter play in the sand. It was one of those rare quiet moments where I could just breathe and reflect.
Like many of us, my mind immediately jumped to all the things I hadn’t accomplished yet this year. But then a big wave crashed, and it snapped me out of that negative spiral. I realized I’ve actually done a lot: I revamped my nutrition coaching practice, prepped for a big family move, and navigated major life events.
Sometimes all we need is a shift in perspective.
Why Summer is the Perfect Time to Reset
Summer has this amazing energy. It feels light, full of possibility, and just a bit slower than the rest of the year. That makes it the perfect opportunity for a reset.
But let me be clear—this isn’t about strict rules or all-or-nothing thinking. If you’re living with MS, you’re already carrying enough. This reset is about creating small shifts that feel good and actually fit into your life.
So, take a breath with me. You’re not behind. You haven’t failed. You just need a fresh start, and summer is ready to offer it.
The Problem with Waiting for the “Perfect Time”
Here’s what I’ve seen again and again as a certified Wahls Protocol nutrition coach: people think they need to have it all figured out before they start. But the truth is, no one starts with a full plan. And that’s okay.
You don’t need the perfect setup. You don’t need a complete pantry overhaul or a detailed calendar of meals. What you need is one small step.
Because small changes lead to big results.
And motivation? It doesn’t come before the action. It comes after.
The more small actions you take, the more momentum you build. That’s how transformation happens.
The Top 3 Summer Reset Tips
If you’re ready to hit reset, here are my top three suggestions. These are pulled straight from my own experience living with MS and coaching thousands of others. Start with the one that feels easiest and build from there.
1. Embrace Seasonal Produce
Summer is the best time to take advantage of fresh, local fruits and vegetables. Seasonal produce is more flavorful, nutrient-dense, and often more affordable. Plus, shopping at your local farmers market can be a fun weekly outing.
Pick one new vegetable or fruit each week to try. Use it as the base for a salad, a snack, or a side dish. You don’t have to overhaul your entire diet. Just begin with what’s fresh and available.
2. Get Morning Sunlight
Getting sunlight within the first hour of waking helps regulate your circadian rhythm, improves your mood, and can support better sleep at night.
Try this: spend 15 minutes outside in the morning. You can enjoy your coffee on the porch, take a short walk, or just sit and breathe. Morning light is nature’s coffee, and it’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your energy.
3. Stay Hydrated
Summer heat can leave you more dehydrated than you realize. Hydration affects everything; your energy, digestion, even inflammation.
Keep a reusable water bottle with you and aim to drink water steadily throughout the day. Add lemon, cucumber, or berries to keep it interesting. And if you need a hydration boost, add a sugar-free electrolyte powder.
Bonus Tip: Cold Therapy
Try ending your shower with 30 seconds of cold water. It can reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and leave you feeling more awake and refreshed.
Your Reset Starts Now
This summer reset isn’t about restriction or stress. It’s about making space for new energy, new habits, and new possibilities. When something feels light and doable, you’re more likely to stick with it and that’s what leads to long-term success.
Start small. Take the pressure off. Choose one thing to focus on this week. And celebrate each step you take forward.
